Making World Sailing More Sustainable

Dear World Sailing Member,

Thank you to all who have been working with me to help make the sport more sustainable.

I’d like to bring a few items to your attention:

  1. Entries open for World Sailing 11th Hour Racing Sustainability award
World Sailing have just opened entries for the World Sailing 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Award. A $10,000 prize goes to the winner. We are looking for applications from clubs/events/MNAs/classes/builders etc who deserve global recognition for sustainability efforts. If you have been working on anything over the last year, I would encourage you to apply. Please also share with your own members so they may apply, such as sailing clubs or national class associations. You might find the following easiest to share:  WS press release, Facebook video , APPLICATION FORM

  1. Guidance materials development – case studies needed
World Sailing have received funding to put together guidance for sailing clubs to lower their environmental impact. This will be launched at the 2019 Annual Conference as a freely available resource for all to use. To make the resource more relevant to you all, we are seeking international case studies from sailing clubs who have made changes to their club. We are looking for replicable projects covering: energy use, waste management, water recovery, micro renewables, refuelling, invasive species management and more. Please contact me if you know of a club that would be a good case study.

  1. Sustainability Workshop at 2019 Annual Conference
At this year’s annual conference (Tuesday 29th October), we will have a sustainability workshop (that will also be audio streamed for those who cannot attend). This year, we want to make it relevant to you. Please let me know if you have a particular question or topic you’d like addressed, or whether you have a success story you’d like to share.

  1. 1:1 session with World Sailing Head of Sustainability
At the 2019 Annual Conference, we are offering 1:1 sustainability sessions to assist you with creating individual plans for your organisation. Please let me know if you would like a slot. Those not attending the conference, this will still be available via video conference facility so please get in touch.

Best wishes

Dan
